Privacy Policy
SIANE is published by Apps by SAHARA.
This Privacy Policy describes how SIANE (“we,” “our,” or “the App”) handles information when you use our iPhone app and this website. SIANE is a private childhood memory book: it holds some of the most personal things a family has, and we treat it that way.
SIANE is not available yet. This policy describes how the App will handle information when it launches, and how this website handles information today. If anything here changes before launch, we will update this page and its effective date.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information
To keep your memories safe across devices and share them with family, SIANE needs an account. We collect your name, your email address, and, if you use Sign in with Apple, the information Apple shares with us.
1.2 Your memories
The content you add to SIANE is yours. It can include photos, videos, voice recordings, written stories, dates, places, and the names of your child and the people in their life. We store this content so you can see it, share it with the people you invite, and turn it into a book.
1.3 Photo library access
SIANE only sees the photos you allow it to see through iOS permissions, and you can choose limited access at any time in Settings. To suggest moments worth remembering, SIANE looks at information such as a photo’s date and what appears in it. A photo is only uploaded to your SIANE library when you choose to save it as part of a memory.
1.4 Microphone and voice recordings
When you choose to tell a memory out loud, SIANE records your voice and turns it into text. The microphone is only used while you are recording. You decide whether to keep the recording, the transcript, or both.
1.5 Family and contributors
If you invite a partner, grandparent, or anyone else to contribute, we collect the email address or phone number you use to invite them. What they add is stored as part of your family’s story, credited to them.
1.6 Purchases and printed books
Subscriptions and in-app purchases are handled by Apple. We receive confirmation of what you purchased, not your payment details. If you order a printed book, we collect the name and shipping address needed to deliver it.
1.7 Technical information
We collect limited technical information, such as your device model, iOS version, App version, and crash reports, to keep SIANE working and to fix problems. We do not use it for advertising.
2. How We Use Information
We use your information only to provide and improve SIANE, including to:
- Store your memories and keep them in sync across your devices
- Suggest moments from your photos and help you tell their stories
- Transcribe your voice and, when you ask, gently polish your words
- Share memories with the people you invite, and only them
- Design, print, and deliver the books you order
- Respond to your questions and keep the service secure
3. What We Never Do
Their childhood isn’t content. SIANE is built around that, so we never:
- Show advertising, or use your memories to target advertising
- Sell or rent your information or your family’s memories
- Create public profiles, followers, or public posts
- Use your photos, recordings, or stories to train artificial intelligence models
- Share your memories with anyone you have not invited
4. Family Sharing
Your memories are private to you until you invite someone. People you invite can see the memories you share with them and add their own. You can change what someone can see, or remove them, at any time. When someone is removed, they lose access to your family’s story.
5. Service Providers
We work with a small number of service providers to run SIANE. They process information only on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it and forbid them from using it for their own purposes. They include:
- Hosting and storage, to keep your memories safe and in sync
- Transcription and writing assistance, to turn your voice into text and polish it when you ask
- Printing and delivery, only when you order a printed book
- Apple, which distributes the App and handles purchases under its own privacy policy
6. Children’s Privacy
SIANE is made for parents and the adults in a child’s life. Accounts are for people 18 and older, and the App is not directed to children. Information about a child, such as their photos, name, and stories, is added by a parent or guardian, who controls it and can export or delete it at any time. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, and we limit access to the people and providers who need it to run SIANE. No system is perfectly secure, so we also recommend protecting your device with a passcode and keeping iOS up to date.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You stay in control of your family’s story. You can:
- See, edit, and delete any memory
- Export your memories, including your photos, recordings, and stories
- Change or withdraw photo library and microphone access in iOS Settings
- Remove the people you have invited
- Delete your account and the memories stored with it
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, such as the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to how it is used. To make a request, email us at the address below. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
9. Data Retention
We keep your memories for as long as your account is active, because keeping them is the point. When you delete a memory or your account, we delete the related content from our active systems, and it is removed from backups within a limited period. We may keep a small amount of information when the law requires it, such as purchase records.
10. International Users
SIANE is operated from the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, your information may be transferred to and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate, with safeguards appropriate to that transfer.
11. This Website
This website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, your approximate location, your device and browser, and the site that referred you. We use it only to improve this website, not for advertising, and it never receives anything from the App.
You can opt out by blocking cookies in your browser or by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Google handles this information under its own Privacy Policy.
The website has no forms and no advertising. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information, such as your IP address, to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this policy and, once the App is available, let you know in the App. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
